Churn Good Neighbours

Social isolation and loneliness is bad for your health – it can be as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Churn Good Neighbours is a befriending service for older people living alone.

Our volunteers make weekly visits or telephone calls to people who can’t get out as much as they would like. The friendships that develop become a valuable part of both people’s lives.

Our volunteer team have made more than 30,000 visits since we set up the service over ten years ago. Churn Good Neighbours covers Cirencester and its surrounding villages, from Ampney St Peter to Birdlip, from North Cerney to Somerford Keynes – we cover the central South Cotswolds area.

We also run social events and can arrange transport for these get-togethers. Having friendly company is good for us all, so please come and join us.

How do I get involved?

This is a free and confidential service available to anyone over the age of 65 living on their own. We try to match people up with a volunteer they are likely to get on with. The volunteer will contact regularly for a chat and a cup of tea or perhaps to go out for a walk or drive. They won’t take on other tasks but will keep a friendly eye on them and, through the CGN Manager, can signpost to other services if they are needed.

If you’d like to find out more about how to volunteer or how to refer someone you think could benefit from this service, please contact us
